FAQ

Common questions

What is an RSS feed?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a standard format that websites use to publish updates. Almost every blog, news site, podcast, and newsletter has an RSS feed. Instead of visiting each site, Readbase pulls all new content into one place automatically.

How does the AI summary work?

When you open an article (or when full content is fetched), Readbase can generate a summary using GPT. You choose the format — a short 100-word prose overview or a bullet-point list of key points. Summaries are cached so you're not charged twice for the same article.

Can I use my own OpenAI API key?

Yes. You can bring your own OpenAI API key in Settings. When you do, AI summaries are billed directly to your OpenAI account — not to us. This gives you full control over your API usage and costs.

Does Readbase work with paywalled sites?

For sites you're already subscribed to, you can store your session cookies in Readbase. This allows the full content extractor to access paywalled articles just like your browser would — without sharing your password with us.

Is my data private?

Your feeds, articles, and reading history are private to your account. We don't sell data or show ads. When you use our AI summaries, article content is sent to OpenAI's API in accordance with their privacy policy.

Can I sign in with Google?

Yes. You can sign up and sign in with your Google account for a one-click experience, or use a traditional email and password if you prefer.
